Many singers can write their own songs, do great through auditions, can sing with a band in harmony, and sound great singing without music. However just because they know how to do all of these things now, or they did when they become famous, they had to learn it somewhere. So how do you learn how to do all of these things, and do them well? The most important thing you can do is practice, and keep practicing. Trying new things with your voice will show you your limits, learning different warming up methods will help you find one that fits you perfectly, and learning about your voice are all important to your success as a professional singer. The following are more important things you can do to get ready to become a professional singer.

Practice your singing with original songs, written by you or someone else. To do this you have to be able to read music well, which is also a crucial part of the music industry, because if you can not read music, you will not know what notes to follow. By practicing original songs you do not have a frame of reference to compare it to. You may not have heard the song played before by someone famous and you can play with it to make it better for you. Making a song better for you, would be easier to do if you knew how to write music as well, and writing your own songs can add meaning to the music for you. Knowing how to write music will help in reading it as well, and help you to understand the flow of songs that may be written for you.

Another great idea is to have someone you can work with. Someone to help you with your own specific problems, a person to consult with that has experience with singing and the music industry and can listen to your voice and tell you what you need to work on. Having this person can be very helpful, because family and friends often do not want to tell us if we are not doing well in something we love doing. Besides singing and music writing and reading, a music instructor or voice teacher may be able to tell you more about the industry and answer questions about it that you can find no where else.
